I really need to get high speed internet, they don't have it in my area, so it seems satellite or wireless are my only options. I know nothing about either, so wondering if anyone could give me some input. I have had some people tell me that satellite internet is not much better than dial up, that's hard for me to believe since I have dial up right now. I really gotta do something about this!
they're right about satalite. it's very unstable and can go out at the smallest change. cloud cover, you can lose internet. rain your net is as good as gone. that kind of thing. and by wireless, what do you mean.
Let me help you if I can if your talking about cell service internet replacing your dial-up. One, stay far away from clear wire!!, my reason is as follows. Yes you can watch netflix but its not all that stable, wy max is not know for very fast internet speeds. you can see this because even sprint is going to stop offering phones that run on why max. Also keep in mind if some company's do put a cap on how much date you can use every month. However, out side of clear wire the other carier I have used was Verizon and they were quite reliable if I could get a signal. Either way see what wireless internet carier works best in your area and your good to go.
If you meant cell data, starfly is right, but since there are sometimes microwave options that are available, if cable or dsl services aren't available in your area. Also, if you are talking about a cellular provider, check the coverage as edge speeds wouldn't be any faster and sometimes slower than sattelite. Sattelite speeds are getting better and are less unstable, but if microwave type wireless is available in your area, that is the best approach.
Yes I think it was cell service internet I was looking into, and I think the limit was, 2G, 5G, or, 10G, for 30, 50, or 80 dollars. I don't know much about this stuff so was just wondering, thanks so much.
Tim...
sounds like Verizon data and depending on your usage, that could be a good solution. sattelite would cost as much and if Verizon 3g/4g coverage, encompasses your area, it might be your solution. The overages equals ten dollars a gig, so be careful to match your usage patern.
I use clearwire for aabout 50 bucks per month which is unlimited and have absoultely no stabillity problems. Granted you do need to make sure the router modem is in a good signal area but aside from that service is extremly stable. I have had no outages, audio and video streaming have been consistantly clean and overall service is excellent. I've never called tech support once. I like that. Also, I love the lack of wires on my desk and the abillity to put the device anyware in the house.
As a person who has experienced satellite internet before, I would say stay far away from it.
Nope, if I were yu, I'd stay away from sattalight internet. If you're going to use your cell to connect to the web, first of all, before you do anything, make sure you debrand the phone, or if you use another carrier, it will significantly decrease your download speeds.
